The Clean Up: Vol. 2

WHOO HOO!!!

The Cleanup: Volume 2 has been completed!!

We had such an amazing time with everyone! We were blessed with 19 volunteers to work diligently to clean the streets of Prospect Avenue. We met at Thelma R. Parks Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. We gave volunteers the safety vests, gloves, trash bags and bottled water before the orientation. During the orientation, we spoke about the organization, the purpose of the cleanup, the process and the vision of where we would like the event to grow into. Following the orientation, we prayed together and began the route.

First, we cleaned from N.E. 30th Street to N.E. 23rd Street. During the cleanup, Vice President Mary Smith and Secretary Courtney Brown passed out hygiene care packages, along with our information to community members along the route. The hygiene care packages consisted of toothpaste, toothbrushes, canned food items, bottled water, hand sanitizer, soap and lotion.

After completing the first half of the route, we walked back to N.E. 30th Street and Prospect Avenue for a brief water break. During the second half of the route, we had our highlight of the cleanup. As a volunteer picked up a piece of trash, she was shocked to see a horse on the other side of the fence. The volunteers were excited to see a horse unexpectedly and we all enjoyed the moment.

We completed the cleanup with 20 bags of litter filled. This is THREE more bags compared to the previous cleanup in April!!!
