Words from Our Volunteer!

"This foundation is run by a group of compassionate women who are devoted to supporting causes that effect so many by truly providing a helping hand for others. Selfless Hands is such a blessing to the Oklahoma City area and beyond."

— Natalie Newman, Impact Volunteer

Selfless Hands Foundation was born out of a need to help vulnerable families in the Northeast Oklahoma City and Mid-Del areas. Founder, Raven, has always had a heart for service and helping those in need. At Oklahoma State University, Raven was involved in various organizations as a student leader and advocate for minority students. In addition, she was involved in the CORD program, which connected students with service opportunities in the community. Through this program, she discovered a passion for serving others and making a positive impact in the world.

After college, Raven continued to look for ways to serve and eventually found her calling in disaster relief efforts. She witnessed firsthand the devastation that natural disasters can cause and the importance of providing assistance and support to those affected.

However, Raven's life took a tragic turn when her best friend, Alexus Ochoa-Dockins, passed away suddenly. The loss was devastating, and Raven struggled to find meaning and purpose in life. But eventually, she realized that she could honor her friend's memory by continuing to serve others and make a positive impact in the world.

When Raven began working as a Child Welfare Specialist in the Child Protective Services unit, she saw a different type of struggle that many families faced due to a lack of resources. She witnessed children being removed or at risk of being removed from their homes, not because of abuse, bad parenting, or true neglect, but because of a lack of financial assistance and resources. Despite her efforts to connect families with resources through community portals, she often encountered delayed responses or no response at all.

Feeling frustrated and discouraged, Raven took matters into her own hands and began providing resources directly to families, including food, clothes, hygiene and toiletry items, and Christmas gifts and groceries during the holiday season. She noticed that many of the families she was helping were minorities, particularly Black families, and were located in Northeast Oklahoma City and Mid-Del areas.

With encouragement from loved ones, Raven decided to establish Selfless Hands Foundation to formalize her efforts and provide even more support to families in need. The organization started with gift-wrapping services for families in Northeast Oklahoma City, toy drives, and supporting local events, such as Twice the Cut’s 16th Annual Back-to-School event. As the organization grew, it expanded its services to include an Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive and Bash and the Annual Trunk-or-Treat event with candies, decorated trunks, face painting, bounce houses, carnival games, and music in the local communities of Northeast Oklahoma City.

The Selfless Hands Foundation's intent is to serve vulnerable families with compassion and kindness. The organization is committed to helping families access the resources they need to thrive and providing support during difficult times. Through the dedication and hard work of Raven and the Selfless Hands Foundation team, the organization continues to make a positive impact on the community and serve those in need.
