Sip and Self Care : Know Your Rights Edition

Another Sip & Self-Care in the books!!

We had an amazing and enlightening conversation with Attorney Lorenzo Banks on Saturday, September 26th. 2020 at the Art Craft Love Creative Space. We appreciate Attorney Banks for giving his “Know Your Rights” presentation over the laws that govern police stops and interactions. He has been giving this presentation all over the country and locally for nearly eight years now.

We believe that this knowledge is vital to not only the whole country, but to our local community. We wanted to provide an event to the public that would be educational yet relaxing. Selfless Hands Foundation decided to find a fun way to inform our community how to practice self-care from many aspects of life. This event was originally set to take place in March, but due to Covid-19 and safety precautions, Sip and Self Care was postponed until the mid-summer date of July 11, 2020.

We held the event at Art Craft Love Creative Space in Del City, Oklahoma beginning at 6pm. Guests were welcomed with a treats table filled with seven-layered dip, fresh fruit, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies , cheesecake bites, chocolate covered strawberries, and mini german chocolate, strawberry, wedding cake, and caramel cupcakes by Karma Cupcakes of Oklahoma City. Guests were also offered 5 oz glasses of red wine, mimosas, and water to enjoy while also enjoying some local vendors, which include Jewelry Expressions by Tracey Kennedy (selling Paparazzi Jewelry and each piece is $5!), Melaleuca Home Good products by Sharron Smith, and local nail technician/artist, Caree Smith.

Shortly after all registered guests had arrived, checked in and settled in, we began our event with the introduction for our two speakers, Trevor Kelly of Certified Fitness Trainer of A-plus Fitness, and Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist Candidate, Sharron Smith. The speakers gave several tips on how mental health and physical fitness go hand in had with taking care of ones self. The duo also answered questions of guest ranging from different exercises to practice that require minimal movement to different ways to meditate on a weekly basis. Many of our guests and vendors also joined in the conversation by sharing some of the things they do to keep a sound mind and healthy body on a daily basis.

By the end of the conversation, many of our guests where beyond excited to begin practicing the new tips they learned at home as well as partake in a few more sips. As guest left, they expressed their appreciation for the concept of the event how well enjoyed and informed they felt upon leaving to return home.

Many guests also requested there be another Sip and Self-Care event, with that being said, Our next Sip and Self-Care event will be Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Art Craft Love Creative Space, 5520 E Reno Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73117, at 6:00 p.m. The conversations will be focused on educating one another on our basic human rights and how to safely navigate through encounters with law enforcement. Our speaker will be Attorney Lorenzo Banks.
